Losing Everything to Finding Purpose: My Real Story
There was a time when I believed I had lost everything that truly mattered. The future I had imagined for myself seemed to disappear piece by piece, leaving me with more questions than answers. Every day felt like a struggle to simply keep moving forward. I carried grief that few people could see and pain that was difficult to explain. Looking at my life back then, I never would have imagined that those painful years would eventually lead me to a purpose greater than I had ever planned. My story is not one of perfection or easy victories. It is a story of heartbreak, resilience, healing, and discovering that sometimes losing the life you expected opens the door to a completely different—and equally meaningful—future.
My journey began in 2015 when I was diagnosed with infertility. Hearing that I would likely never conceive naturally was one of the most devastating moments of my life. Becoming a mother had always been one of my greatest dreams, and suddenly that dream felt uncertain. Although I was heartbroken, I refused to give up. I believed that determination, faith, and medical treatment would eventually help me build the family I had always imagined. That belief led me into seven years of IVF treatments, surgeries, hormone medications, blood tests, and countless doctor’s appointments.
The IVF journey demanded everything from me. Every treatment cycle brought hope that this would finally be the one that worked, followed by the emotional challenge of waiting for answers. Every setback left me exhausted, but I continued because I couldn’t let go of the dream of becoming a mother. My body became tired, my emotions were constantly tested, and my life slowly revolved around appointments, medications, and uncertainty.
Then, in 2019, something incredible happened. After years of trying, I became pregnant. It was the happiest news I had received in a very long time. I was told I was expecting a baby girl, and for the first time in years, I allowed myself to dream freely. I imagined holding her, hearing her laugh, celebrating birthdays, and watching her grow into an amazing person. Those dreams filled my heart with hope and reminded me why I had fought so hard.
Sadly, that happiness lasted only a short time. During a routine ultrasound appointment, my doctor quietly told me there was no heartbeat. In that moment, everything changed. Losing my baby was the deepest heartbreak I had ever experienced. It felt as though years of hope, sacrifice, and love disappeared in a single moment. I struggled to understand how life could be so beautiful one day and so painful the next.
As heartbreaking as that experience was, it came after another tremendous loss. In 2017, I lost my mother to heart disease. She had always been my biggest supporter, my safest place, and the person who believed in me through every challenge. Losing her left a space in my heart that never truly disappeared. During my fertility journey, I often wished she were still here to comfort me, encourage me, and remind me that I wasn’t alone.
Over time, the emotional pain became impossible to ignore. Anxiety became part of my everyday life, depression slowly followed, and years of stress and hormone treatments affected my physical health. I gained weight, struggled with constant fatigue, lost confidence, and stopped recognizing the woman I saw in the mirror. Looking back now, I realize I wasn’t just carrying extra weight—I was carrying years of grief that I had never fully allowed myself to process.
Even after losing my baby, I continued IVF treatments because letting go of my dream felt impossible. Then one day everything changed. I experienced a severe allergic reaction to one of my hormone medications and ended up in the emergency room. Sitting there, surrounded by doctors and medical equipment, I reflected on the previous seven years of my life. I realized I had spent so much time fighting for a future I couldn’t control that I had forgotten to care for the life I was living. That realization became the turning point I desperately needed.
On November 27, 2022, I made the most important decision of my life. I chose to stop waiting for happiness to arrive and start creating it for myself. I couldn’t change what had happened, but I could choose what happened next. Instead of focusing only on what I had lost, I decided to invest my energy in rebuilding my health, my confidence, and my future.
My healing journey began with a registered dietitian who helped me understand that lasting change starts with daily habits. Healing wasn’t simply about losing weight. It was about changing my relationship with food, improving my mindset, and learning to treat myself with kindness. I completed a medically supervised detox program and gradually built healthier routines that supported both my body and my emotional well-being.
In January 2023, I joined a gym and started working with a personal trainer. Some workouts were physically difficult, while others challenged me emotionally. There were days when grief still followed me into the gym, but I kept showing up because I learned that discipline matters more than motivation. Every workout reminded me that I was becoming stronger in ways I couldn’t yet see.
A few months later, I discovered Aquabike classes, and everything began to change. I found an incredible community that encouraged me, celebrated every achievement, and reminded me that progress happens one step at a time. Fitness became more than exercise. It became therapy, confidence, and hope. It gave me a place where I could release stress, rebuild my self-esteem, and rediscover joy.
As I continued growing stronger, I challenged myself to become a certified Aquabike fitness instructor. Sometimes I still smile when I think about how unexpected that journey has been. The woman who once spent years sitting in fertility clinics wondering if life would ever get better now spends her days helping other people improve their health and believe in themselves. That purpose is something I never expected, but it has become one of the greatest gifts of my life.
On November 27, 2022, I weighed 195 pounds. Three years later, on November 27, 2025, I weighed 125 pounds. Losing 70 pounds was an incredible accomplishment, but the number on the scale doesn’t tell the whole story. My greatest transformation happened inside me. I learned that healing is not about forgetting the people or dreams you’ve lost. It is about finding the courage to keep living, to keep growing, and to believe that your future can still hold meaning.
Today, I still miss my mother every day, and I will always carry love for the daughter I never had the chance to hold. Those losses remain part of who I am, but they no longer define who I will become. Instead, they remind me of my resilience and the incredible strength that can grow from life’s hardest moments.
If someone asked me what finding purpose truly means, I wouldn’t talk only about fitness, weight loss, or becoming an instructor. I would tell them that purpose begins the moment you decide your pain will no longer control your future. Losing everything I thought I wanted forced me to discover everything I truly needed—self-belief, discipline, gratitude, compassion, and hope. My journey taught me that life doesn’t always give us the story we planned, but it can still give us a story worth telling. Sometimes the greatest purpose is found only after everything else has fallen apart, and that has become the most meaningful lesson of my life.
