Rebuilding My Health After Seven Years of IVF

Rebuilding My Health After Seven Years of IVF

Seven years. Seven long years filled with hope, disappointment, and relentless medical procedures. That’s how long my journey with infertility lasted. It began in 2015 when I was diagnosed with fertility issues and told that conceiving naturally might not be possible for me. I was devastated, but I refused to give up. IVF became my path forward — a path that would test my body, mind, and spirit in ways I could never have anticipated.

At first, the process was manageable. I thought of each injection, each appointment, each blood test as a step closer to my dream of becoming a mother. But IVF is not just a physical challenge; it’s an emotional rollercoaster. Every cycle carried hope and every failed attempt brought heartbreak. I endured over twenty procedures, multiple surgeries, and a continuous stream of hormone medications that left my body feeling foreign. My mental and emotional energy was drained, and the stress of repeated losses began to weigh heavily on me.

Then came the brief moment of hope: in 2019, I became pregnant. I was told I was having a girl, due in January 2020. For the first time, I allowed myself to feel joy. I dared to imagine a future filled with lullabies and tiny feet. But nine weeks later, during an ultrasound, there was no heartbeat. My baby was gone. The grief hit me like a tidal wave, leaving me feeling hollow, lost, and broken. I stayed with IVF treatments for three more years, hoping that success might come again. Each cycle became more difficult than the last, physically taxing and emotionally exhausting.

The turning point came unexpectedly. After years of hormone treatments, I suffered a severe allergic reaction that landed me in the emergency room. Sitting there, I had a moment of clarity. I realized that seven years of my life had been consumed by the pursuit of motherhood — and despite all my efforts, the dream I had longed for might never happen. In that instant, I had to face the truth: I needed to take control of my life, my health, and my future, in a way that didn’t depend on outcomes I couldn’t control.

Rebuilding my health became my new goal. I started by seeking guidance from a dietitian who helped me understand the impact of stress, hormones, and emotional trauma on my body. I worked to repair my relationship with food, learning to nourish myself instead of punishing myself. I committed to a 28-day medically supervised detox that reduced inflammation and allowed my body to feel lighter and stronger for the first time in years.

Next came physical activity. In January 2023, I joined EOS Fitness and met with a personal trainer weekly for four months. Each session was a struggle — my body felt weak, my motivation wavered, and some days I didn’t want to show up. But I pushed through. Gradually, my body grew stronger, and I noticed small but significant improvements in my energy, mood, and overall well-being.

In May 2023, I discovered Aquabike classes and a supportive fitness community that became a turning point in my journey. For 90 days, I attended classes 3-4 times per week while maintaining my nutrition plan. The changes were undeniable: I dropped two clothing sizes, my energy levels soared, my sleep improved, and my mental and physical health transformed. I graduated from working with my dietitian and personal trainer, now empowered to maintain my progress independently.

The final step in my transformation was finding purpose in helping others. Six months later, I became a certified Aquabike instructor. Teaching and motivating others gave me a renewed sense of self-worth and connection. The pain and setbacks I had endured became part of a narrative of resilience and empowerment rather than failure.

Rebuilding my health after seven years of IVF was not easy. It required confronting grief, embracing patience, and developing discipline. Every meal, every workout, every mental health practice became an act of reclaiming my body and mind. I learned that health is holistic — it involves physical strength, mental resilience, and emotional balance.

Today, I am proud of the woman I have become. I weigh less, feel stronger, and have cultivated a mindset that values self-care and self-compassion. My heart and mind are healthier, my energy levels higher, and my body resilient. The seven years of IVF taught me perseverance, but it was rebuilding my health afterward that taught me self-love and empowerment.

I cannot undo the losses I endured, but I can honor my journey by living fully, taking care of myself, and embracing the strength I never knew I had. Rebuilding my health was not just about weight, fitness, or appearance — it was about reclaiming my life and choosing to thrive despite everything I had been through.

This journey reminded me that even after the most difficult chapters, it’s possible to rebuild, heal, and create a life of purpose, strength, and joy.
