The Journey That Taught Me How to Live Again
There was a time when I believed I was simply surviving instead of truly living. My days were filled with doctor’s appointments, fertility treatments, disappointment, and grief. I woke up each morning carrying the weight of dreams that seemed further away than ever before. Life became a series of obstacles instead of opportunities, and hope slowly gave way to exhaustion. Looking back now, I realize that I had forgotten what it felt like to enjoy the present because I was constantly waiting for a different future. It took years of heartbreak, loss, and personal transformation to teach me one of life’s greatest lessons: living isn’t about having a perfect life. It’s about finding purpose, gratitude, and hope even after everything changes.
My journey began in 2015 when I was diagnosed with infertility. Hearing my doctor explain that conceiving naturally would likely never happen felt like one of the most painful moments of my life. Becoming a mother had always been one of my greatest dreams, and suddenly that future became uncertain. I remember leaving the appointment with tears in my eyes, but I also carried hope. I believed IVF treatment would eventually help me build the family I had always imagined, so I committed myself to the journey with determination and faith.
The next seven years became one of the most emotionally demanding seasons of my life. My schedule revolved around fertility clinics, blood tests, hormone injections, medications, surgeries, ultrasounds, and endless waiting. Every IVF cycle began with excitement and hope. Every setback brought another wave of disappointment. Infertility slowly became more than a medical condition. It affected my confidence, my emotional well-being, my relationships, and my vision of the future.
Then, while I was still fighting that battle, another heartbreaking chapter unfolded. In 2017, I lost my mother to heart disease. She had always been my greatest supporter, my closest friend, and the person who encouraged me no matter what life placed in my path. Losing her left a pain that words cannot fully describe. There were so many moments throughout my fertility journey when I wished I could hear her reassuring voice or receive one more comforting hug.
Even through that grief, I continued believing that brighter days were still ahead.
Then, in 2019, after years of treatments and countless prayers, I finally became pregnant. It was the moment I had dreamed about for so long. I was told I was expecting a baby girl, and for the first time in years, I allowed myself to imagine the future without fear. I pictured holding her, celebrating birthdays, reading bedtime stories, and introducing her to stories about the grandmother she would never have the chance to meet.
Sadly, those dreams ended during a routine ultrasound appointment when my doctor quietly explained that there was no heartbeat.
Losing my baby became the deepest heartbreak I had ever experienced. It wasn’t simply losing a pregnancy. It felt like losing seven years of hope, sacrifice, prayers, and dreams. I questioned everything. I wondered whether happiness would ever return or whether grief would become the only thing I would ever feel again.
The emotional burden of those losses slowly affected every part of my life. Anxiety became constant. Depression took away my motivation. Years of hormone medications, emotional eating, stress, and sadness affected my physical health as well. My weight increased to 195 pounds, I constantly felt exhausted, and I no longer recognized the woman looking back at me in the mirror. Looking back now, I understand that I wasn’t simply carrying extra weight—I was carrying years of emotional pain that had never truly healed.
Even after losing my baby, I continued IVF treatments because I couldn’t let go of the dream I had spent years pursuing. Then everything changed after I suffered a severe allergic reaction to one of my hormone medications and found myself sitting in the emergency room.
For the first time, I stopped thinking about the future I had been chasing.
Instead, I thought about the life I was losing in the present.
I realized I had spent years postponing my happiness because I believed my life would truly begin only after becoming a mother. In the process, I had forgotten to care for my own body, my emotional health, and my overall well-being.
That realization became the beginning of my healing.
On November 27, 2022, I made a promise to myself that changed everything. I chose to stop waiting for life to become perfect before allowing myself to live fully. I couldn’t erase infertility. I couldn’t undo the losses I had experienced. But I could choose to build a meaningful life starting exactly where I was.
My healing journey began with a registered dietitian who helped me understand that lasting transformation begins with consistent daily habits. I completed a medically supervised detox program and gradually rebuilt my relationship with food. Instead of using food to comfort emotional pain, I learned how to nourish my body with patience and compassion.
In January 2023, I joined a gym and started working with a personal trainer. The beginning was incredibly difficult. Some mornings, grief still felt overwhelming. But I kept showing up because I realized that healing doesn’t require perfect days—it simply requires refusing to quit. Every workout became another step toward reclaiming both my body and my confidence.
A few months later, I discovered Aquabike classes, and my perspective on life began changing. I found an encouraging community that celebrated every success and supported me through every challenge. Fitness became much more than exercise. It became therapy, confidence, hope, and emotional healing. Every class reminded me that I was capable of becoming stronger than I had ever imagined.
As my confidence continued growing, I challenged myself to become a certified Aquabike fitness instructor. Looking back now, I still find it remarkable how much my life has changed. The woman who once spent years waiting in fertility clinics hoping for good news now spends her days helping other people become healthier, stronger, and more confident. Helping others improve their lives has become one of the greatest blessings of my own journey.
On November 27, 2022, I weighed 195 pounds. Three years later, on November 27, 2025, I weighed 125 pounds. Losing 70 pounds was an incredible milestone, but it wasn’t the greatest transformation I experienced. The greatest transformation happened within me. I learned that life isn’t measured only by the dreams that come true. It is also shaped by the courage we show when those dreams change. I discovered that healing doesn’t erase grief, but it allows hope to exist alongside it.
Today, I still miss my mother every day, and I will always carry love for the daughter I never had the chance to hold. Their memories remain a treasured part of my life, but they no longer define the direction of my future. Instead, they remind me to live with gratitude, resilience, compassion, and purpose. My journey taught me how to live again by showing me that every new day is a gift, even after unimaginable loss. Although I never would have chosen the path I walked, it led me to discover strength, hope, and purpose that I never knew existed. My life today looks very different from the one I once imagined, but it is filled with meaning, healing, and a deep appreciation for every opportunity to keep moving forward. Sometimes the greatest lesson life teaches us is that even after our hearts have been broken, they are still capable of healing, loving, and living again.
