The Story Behind My 70-Pound Transformation

The Story Behind My 70-Pound Transformation

When people hear that I lost 70 pounds, they may see a number and imagine a simple story about diet, exercise, and determination. They may look at the before-and-after and think the transformation happened because I suddenly became disciplined or decided that I wanted to look different. But the truth is much deeper than that. My 70-pound transformation was never just about losing weight. It was about healing years of emotional pain, learning to care for myself again, rebuilding my confidence, and discovering a version of myself that I had almost forgotten existed. My journey toward transformation began during some of the most difficult years of my life. I spent years dealing with infertility and IVF treatments, experiencing hope and disappointment over and over again. Every treatment brought the possibility of something I deeply wanted, but also the fear of another loss. Living through that emotional uncertainty for years was exhausting. I often felt like I was constantly waiting for my life to finally become the life I had imagined. Then, in 2017, I lost my mother to heart disease. Losing her changed me in ways I could not fully explain. Grief became another weight I carried while continuing to deal with everything else happening in my life. I learned how to continue with everyday responsibilities while carrying emotions that were difficult to process. Sometimes people could see me functioning normally without realizing how much I was struggling internally. In 2019, I became pregnant through IVF, and for a moment, I allowed myself to believe that perhaps everything was finally going to work out. I had hope again. I imagined the future I had wanted for so long. But when an ultrasound showed that there was no heartbeat, I experienced another devastating loss. It was not only the loss of a pregnancy. It was the loss of a future I had already started imagining in my heart. After years of treatments, grief, disappointment, and emotional exhaustion, I slowly stopped taking care of myself. Food became a source of comfort when I was overwhelmed. Healthy habits became harder to maintain. My emotional health affected my physical health, and eventually, my weight reached 195 pounds. But that number never told the whole story. Behind those 195 pounds were years of stress, sadness, disappointment, and moments when I simply did not know how to take care of myself anymore. For a long time, I thought losing weight would solve everything. I thought if I could change my body, I would automatically feel happier and more confident. But eventually, I realized that the deeper problem was not simply my weight. I had lost connection with myself. I needed to rebuild that connection before I could truly transform my life. November 27, 2022, became one of the most important dates in my journey. I made a decision to choose myself. I did not suddenly have all the answers. I did not know exactly how much my life would change. I simply knew that I could not continue living the way I had been living. I wanted to feel healthy again. I wanted to feel strong. I wanted to experience happiness without feeling guilty for it. Most importantly, I wanted to start believing in myself again. I began my transformation by getting professional guidance. I worked with a registered dietitian and completed a medically supervised detox program. In January 2023, I joined a gym and started working with a personal trainer. These steps became the foundation of my physical transformation, but they also became part of my emotional healing. I quickly learned that changing your body requires much more than motivation. Motivation can come and go, but consistency creates change. There were days when I felt excited about working out and days when I wanted to stay comfortable. There were moments when progress felt slow. I had to learn to keep going even when I could not immediately see the results. One of the biggest turning points came when I discovered aquabike classes. I did not expect an exercise class to become such an important part of my life. Aquabike gave me more than physical movement. It gave me a community, energy, confidence, and something I genuinely enjoyed. Fitness stopped feeling like punishment and started feeling like a celebration of what my body could do. Eventually, I became a certified Aquabike fitness instructor. Looking back, that is one of the most meaningful parts of my transformation because something that began as part of my own healing eventually became connected to a new sense of purpose. My mindset also changed. I realized that I could not hate myself into becoming healthier. I had to learn how to care about myself enough to make healthier choices. That lesson changed the way I looked at food, exercise, my body, and my entire life. I stopped treating my body like something that needed to be punished for my past struggles. Instead, I started treating it with patience and respect. The weight gradually came off, but the internal transformation was happening at the same time. I was becoming more confident. I was learning discipline. I was becoming more patient with myself. I was discovering that I could make a commitment to myself and keep it. Every small achievement became proof that I was capable of change. Between November 27, 2022, and November 27, 2025, I went from 195 pounds to 125 pounds. I lost 70 pounds over the course of my transformation. Of course, I am proud of that physical achievement, but when I look back, the number is not what makes me proudest. What makes me proud is everything that happened behind that number. Behind the 70 pounds were difficult mornings, healthier choices, workouts, patience, setbacks, consistency, and countless moments when I had to choose myself again. Behind the transformation was a woman learning that her worth had never been determined by her weight. Behind the transformation was someone learning that healing and happiness were still possible after years of disappointment. I also learned that transformation does not mean becoming perfect. There will always be difficult days. There will always be moments when old emotions return. The goal is not to create a life without challenges. The goal is to become strong enough to handle those challenges without abandoning yourself. My 70-pound transformation changed much more than my appearance. It changed my relationship with myself. I became more confident in my abilities and more aware of the importance of taking care of my physical and emotional well-being. I learned to appreciate progress instead of demanding perfection. Today, when I look back at the woman who weighed 195 pounds, I do not judge her. I feel compassion for her. She was doing the best she could with the emotional pain she was carrying. She did not need shame. She needed support, patience, and love. That is perhaps the most important part of my story. My transformation did not begin when I decided that I needed to look different. It began when I decided that I deserved to feel different. The 70 pounds I lost are part of my story, but they are not the whole story. The real transformation was learning to choose myself after years of putting my own needs aside. It was learning that healing takes time, that progress is possible, and that a difficult past does not have to determine the future. My story is proof that transformation can begin in the middle of pain. You do not have to have everything figured out before you start. Sometimes, all you need is one decision to do something differently. For me, that decision became the beginning of a completely different chapter. I started with a desire to change my health, but along the way, I found confidence, strength, purpose, and a deeper understanding of who I am. And that is the story behind my 70-pound transformation.
